01 / The experience
Richie’s Plank Experience uses a skyscraper setting, sound and perspective to create a strong sensation of height. What looks straightforward from outside the headset can feel very different once you are inside the scene.
The interest lies in that contrast between the real venue and the virtual view. Each participant can decide how far they want to explore, with the activation team nearby to guide the experience.
The scene works because your eyes and ears present a view that feels far above street level, even though the real floor remains beneath you. Looking down or towards the end of the plank can make the virtual distance feel surprisingly immediate. There is no need to rush: noticing that change in perception is itself a large part of the experience.
02 / Experience highlights
The virtual height and sense of scale demonstrate how VR can change your perception of a space. The skyscraper view uses perspective and sound to make the difference between the real floor and the virtual drop feel striking.
The plank gives the player a clear focal point without a long list of game rules to learn. The action is easy to understand, leaving the participant’s attention on the view and their response to it.
The contrast between what participants know and what they feel often becomes a talking point for the group. Spectators see the real setting while the player sees the virtual one, which helps explain the contrast in their reactions.
